Photovoltaic solar panels: what are the advantages of installing them?

France must diversify its energy mix to deal with geopolitical tensions and participate in the energetic transition : in this context, the development renewable energies is accelerating. The share of solar energy in renewable energies is still low but it is progressing: in May 2022, the largest solar power plant in Europe opened its doors in Bordeaux. This plant is made up of 135 solar panels and can produce the equivalent of the annual consumption of 000 French people.

What if you also switched to solar energy by installing photovoltaic solar panels on your site? Takagreen guides you in your transition project to this renewable energy.

1. What are photovoltaic solar panels?
The photovoltaic solar panels capture the energy of the sun through their cells to transform it into electricity. The energy is immediately available or can be stored in batteries. The installation of solar panels can be coupled with a green roof to take advantage of the effects of synergies and obtain an optimal yield: indeed the plants will make it possible to regulate the temperature on the roof and thus avoid the risk of overheating.

2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of photovoltaic solar panels?
a) Positive impacts on the environment
  • Alternative to fossil fuels: Solar energy does not use finite materials like fossil fuels because it comes from a sustainable and inexhaustible source (the sun)
  • Reduction of CO2 emissions : 10 times less pollutant emissions than fossil fuels
  • Recyclability : The solar panels are now 95% recyclable : modules and inverters must be collected and recycled by an eco-organisation (Soren)- the rare metals that compose them are the subject of research to help optimize their recovery
  • No noise pollution
b) The advantages at the economic level
  • Reduction of the energy bill and return on investment : The price of photovoltaic modules has fallen significantly over the past ten years and the production of solar electricity has become more accessible.
c) However, this technology has some limitations
  • Intermittent production : Weather dependent, no production at night
  • Storage : Storage solution with battery still expensive and polluting but in the making
3) Why install photovoltaic solar panels on your site?

Installing photovoltaic solar panels on its site makes it possible to produce its own energy and to make self-consumption.  Self-consumption is consuming the energy produced by one's own installation, using the wind, the sun, the heat...

This makes it possible to cover part or all of its electricity needs and thus reduce the amount of its energy bill. To supplement its consumption, one has recourse to the electricity or traditional gas network or one uses the energy mix which makes it possible to combine solar and wind energy, for example. Furthermore, self-consumption with resale of surplus makes it possible to resell the remaining unconsumed electricity produced.

However, if self-consumption is not possible, the electricity produced can be fully resold and re-injected into the electricity grid. This allows you to recoup your investment in several years.

We can set up solar panels on the roofs, the ground or even as parking shades….the larger the surface, the more energy production will be optimal.

4) How to make sure to set up a reliable installation?

There are labels that guarantee the quality of the panels, their installation and their monitoring.

  • Certified installers RGE: recognized guarantor of the environment ;
  • The certification QualiPV issued by Quali'EnR completes RGE certification
  • The certification Qualifelec issued for energy and electrical work projects: attests to the company's know-how and skills.
