HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR GREEN ENERGY SUPPLIER?

Today, it is possible, as a professional, to take responsibility for their energy consumption of gas or electricity, by choosing a green energy supplier.

Indeed, these energies are produced from renewable energy sources: hydraulic, wind, solar, geothermal for so-called “green” electricity or natural chemical processes such as methanisation for so-called “green” gas.

These are clean and inexhaustible energies, whose natural renewal is quite rapid on a human scale.

By subscribing to a “green” energy offer, you reduce your environmental impact by using energies that emit very few greenhouse gases. In this way, you support the development of renewable energy production capacities.

But which supplier to choose? How can you be sure that the energy supplied is indeed green? Can we verify the origin of its energy?

To learn more, follow the guide!

GREEN ELECTRICITY SUPPLIER

The term “green” electricity refers to electricity produced from renewable energy sources: hydraulic, wind, solar, geothermal, etc.

ADEME distinguishes two types of offers with regard to green electricity:

  • “Standard” offers: the supplier allows you to be able to follow the traceability of electricity production thanks to Guarantees of Origin (GO).

  • “Premium” offers: In addition to the GOs, the supplier undertakes to obtain supplies from its own green electricity production sites or to purchase green electricity directly from local producers. Our partners Plum energy, Origo, You have been, Volterres offer you alternative solutions with the premium offer available.

For more information concerning your supplier, we invite you to consult the general conditions of sale of your contract or to use the comparator of the national energy ombudsman

GAS SUPPLIERS

There are far fewer “green” gas suppliers than “green” electricity suppliers. On the market, there are two green gas offers:

  • Carbon offset: by consuming natural gas, you emit CO2 (greenhouse gas). The supplier undertakes to offset these C02 emissions by purchasing carbon credits, for each kWh of gas consumed, from authorized associations.

  • Biomethane: obtained by anaerobic digestion, a chemical and biological process that produces gas from the decomposition of organic matter, industrial waste, of vegetable or animal origin. After being purified, it is directly injected into the gas network.

You should know that not all biogas offers are created equal. Indeed, they can consist of 10 to 100% biomethane, or be of French or European origin. This is why we invite you to consult the general conditions of the contract or to use the comparator of the national energy ombudsman in order to have details on the proportion of green gas contained in the offer, the country of origin, and whether it is carbon offset or biomethane.

Finally, since April 2018, offers including biogas are exempt from the Domestic Consumption Tax on Natural Gas (5TICGN).

For example: you have subscribed to an offer including 20% biogas. You will therefore be exempt from 20% on the TICGN.

Our partner You have been, is committed to making biogas accessible to professionals.

THE COST

In general, the costs relating to green energy consumption vary according to two factors: the type of energy and the supplier chosen.

To make sure you choose the best service provider, offering the best rates, it is best to turn to an energy broker. He will be able to guide you towards the most profitable offer and the most adapted to your energy needs.

Our Partners My Best Energy, Opera Energy, Chapters Energy, Optima Energy OMNEGY, Wattvalue, Deconseil, alliance of energies or even The energy lab specialize in renewable energy.
