WIND POWER: FOCUS ON SELF-CONSUMPTION

In this article Takagreen returns to the second source of renewable energy the most used in France: wind power.

HOW DOES A WIND TURBINE WORK?

A wind turbine uses the force of the wind to produce energy. The wind turns the blades connected to a generator which transforms the mechanical energy into electric energy. Thus the wind turbine produces a local and green electricity.

In France, the production of electricity thanks to wind turbines is booming. Wind turbines have many bespoke :

  • No greenhouse gas emissions during use
  • Use of a natural and inexhaustible source of energy: the wind
  • Reduction of our energy dependence
  • Dismantled and recycled at the end of operation (little end-of-life waste)

However, wind energy also presents some weak points :

  • It is intermittent energy – wind turbines operate 75 to 95% of the time: if the wind is not blowing or is weak or too strong, it does not turn.
  • Wind turbines are the source, for some, of visual and noise pollution

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF WIND TURBINE

There are different types of wind turbines:

  • Horizontal axis wind turbines are the most common and suitable for wind farms: the blades rotate around a mast which is horizontal to the ground. The winds are captured from the front and from the back.
  • Vertical axis wind turbines : the blades rotate around a rod positioned vertically - these wind turbines are less bulky and quieter, therefore better suited to urban environments. If they are insensitive to changes in wind direction and can start up in weak winds, their efficiency is lower than that of horizontal wind turbines.

PRODUCING YOUR OWN ENERGY? FOCUS ON SELF-CONSUMPTION

Self-consumption is consuming the energy produced by using the wind, the sun, the heat… This makes it possible to cover part or all of one's electricity needs. To complete its consumption, we resort to the traditional electrical network or we use the energy mix which makes it possible to combine solar and wind energy, for example.

The consumption may be individual ou Collective when there are several producers and consumers grouped together within a legal entity. A wind turbine can therefore be installed to increase the share of renewable energies in its energy consumption. Benefit as a self-consumer: reduce your bill of electricity.

This practice is developing and is likely to develop, insofar as the cost of production and installation of renewable energies decreases and that the electricity cost increases.

Takagreen has selected french companies who design in such a way Oenology wind systems self-consumption:

VERTICAL WIND TURBINES

  • EoLie : Designs wind turbines in a way companies to reduce energy consumption by usingself-consumption
  • Inergys : Range of innovative urban wind turbines to produce usable renewable electricity self-consumption– The company works with local suppliers and uses renewable energies
  • ETaranis : Designs the Alae wind turbine, compact and light, made of recycled materials. A simple wind turbine to produce its own electricity. It's an innovation 100% French
  • Unole: Lille start-up that manufactures a compact wind turbine, adapted to the urban environment, which can be installed on any building with a flat roof.

HORIZONTAL WIND TURBINES

  • Diwatt : Manufacture, installation and maintenance of horizontal wind turbines
