microland is a non-profit association, founded in 2015 by Gérard Filippi, entomologist and naturalist expert. Our NGO contributes to discovering the biodiversity of threatened ecosystems, by collaborating with the local populations of the archipelago of biodiversity, São Tomé and Príncipe.
In partnership with the Consulate of São Tomé and Príncipe de Marseille, OPIE and BirdLife International, Microland is organizing this project over several years, with two missions per year. Our actions symbolize the promise of a colossal advance in the ecological understanding of the territory, through our “Archipelago of Biodiversity” project.
Preserve, enhance and develop the integrity of the unique natural heritage of São Tomé and Príncipe.
Raising awareness of biodiversity, in particular through the discovery of entomology, is the guiding thread of Microland. Convinced that environmental issues are closely linked to those of sharing scientific knowledge, Microland invests in the deployment of actions to promote biodiversity.
Thanks to scientific approaches adapted to each natural environment, Microland's actions tend to reduce the stress caused by climate change. The authenticity and richness of these mysterious volcanic islands are full of endemic species and new to science that we absolutely must identify to better protect them. To carry out our missions, we work closely with the local communities of the archipelago as well as a large number of scientific experts.
Microland has a simple objective, that of helping local populations to value and preserve the biodiversity that surrounds them. For this, we design projects on a human scale and respectful of the environment, thanks to a high naturalist experience, based on knowledge of the living world. We provide technical, thematic and logistical support to support the local economy on a very small scale and promote the conservation of the natural territory.
As an association dedicated to the discovery and promotion of natural heritage, Microland coordinates the program in partnership with the Consulate of São Tomé and Príncipe in Marseille,Office for insects and their environment (Opie), theONG BirdLife International, as well as the Obô National Park.
