What are mycorrhizae?

Mycorrhizae are an ancestral symbiotic association between plant roots and beneficial soil fungi. The fungi connect to the roots and form a network of filaments in the soil which helps to'bring some'water and nutrients the plant needs. In return, the latter provides sugars to the mushrooms so that'they can develop.
